NWFSC VPN Installation Instructions

Cisco Secure Client (AnyConnect)

IMPORTANT – READ FIRST:

This installation requires **local administrator rights** on your computer.


If you are **not allowed to install software** or run files as an administrator:


  → Please contact your organization's IT department  

  → Provide them with this installation package  

  → Ask them to install the NWFSC VPN for you


If you DO have administrator rights, continue with the steps below.

*****Note: If you already have the Cisco Secure Client installed with VPN module, this script will skip the install and only set up the 

       VPN profile.


What's in This Folder:

-------------------------

1. cisco-secure-client-win-5.1.10.233-core-vpn-predeploy-k9.msi

   - This is the VPN installer.


2. NWFSC-DefaultPolicy.xml

   - This tells the VPN app how to connect to NWFSC automatically.


3. install-nwfsc-vpn.bat

   - This script installs everything for you.

How to Install the VPN on Your Computer

-------------------------------------------


STEP 1: Extract the Files

----------------------------

- Right-click the ZIP folder you downloaded

- Select "Extract All" or "Extract Files" and choose a folder you can access easily (like your Downloads)


STEP 2: Run the Installer

----------------------------

1. Open the extracted folder

2. Right-click the file named: 

      CiscoVPNInstall.bat

3. Select: 

      Run as administrator

4. If prompted: 

      Click "Yes" to allow changes


What this does:

- Installs the VPN software

- Copies the VPN configuration profile

- Opens the VPN application


STEP 3: Connect to the VPN

-----------------------------

1. Open the Cisco Secure Client if it didn’t open automatically:

   - Click the Start Menu and search for:

     Cisco Secure Client


2. In the app:

   - The connection name should say: 

     NWFSC Meraki

   - Click the "Connect" button


3. Enter your college account username and password

   - If you're not sure what this is, contact IT


4. Once connected, you will have secure access to NWFSC resources

Troubleshooting Tips

I don't see "NWFSC Meraki" in the Cisco app:

- Input the hostname nwfsc-appliance-chghnjcww.dynamic-m.com


It says “Untrusted server” when I try to connect:

- Open the Cisco Secure Client App

- Click the settings gear Icon

- Select AnyConnect VPN and uncheck the box "Block connections to untrusted servers


I'm not sure of my VPN username/password:

- Contact the NWFSC IT Help Desk (info below)
